Thankfulness is an expression of love to God. It is worship. Making sure you tell God everyday what you thank him for in prayer and worship are ways to benefit your life. We see it in the Psalms with David.
David was a king, but he took time to thank God throughout his Psalms. He thank Him for deliverance from his enemies and for answered prayer.
Sing praise to the Lord, you saints of His, And give thanks at the remembrance of His Holy Name.Psalm 30:4
My life verse is the next verse. “Weeping lasts for a night, but joy comes in the morning.” It means that enemies may tear you down, but you will have victory in song.
The Psalms are always what my uncle tells me to read when I’m discouraged. Worship is key to spiritual growth. Another place where we see thanks is important is in prayer:
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be known to God.Philippians 4:6
We need to keep thanksgiving as a forefront in our prayers and in worship. I learned that when I went to compline prayer in college that I was always praying in supplication. I made my friend Dan furious because I couldn’t think of a prayer in thanks. I prayed so heavily in supplication that people began to think I was a sad poet type. It blew my mind that I had been so absent minded about thanksgiving. Ever since I’ve tried to pray with thanksgiving. It changed the way my life went. Instead of always reviewing my woes I started to have a happier outlook.
Well, I fell off of that recently and hadn’t even been praying. I realized that my rut was because I stopped thanking God and internalized my problems. I had also forsaken the assembly, but it has been hard with COVID to find a church. Luckily there are some facebook broadcasts and web casts that have been good for church hopping. I fell off of it that too and that’s why I chose this month’s theme.
Please tell me ways that you have seen that thanksgiving is vital to your life in the comments and leave me some things for which you are thankful.
